We caught up with Roni Hirshberg, Co-founder of Generation Love, to discuss her wardrobe essentials, the most memorable items in her collection, and her newly launched Fall collection.
Hi Roni! How would you describe your style in one word?
Bold.
What piece in your closet would you say represents you the most?
I would say our new Ophelia blazer in hot pink. It’s bold and playful at the same time. I love the strong color and the contrast of the new gold buttons that adorn the front of the jacket. I love wearing it buttoned all the way up for a more dramatic look. It also comes in black so I can wear that when I’m in a more serious mood. When there is a fit that I love, it’s fun to switch out the colors.
Is there a memorable piece in your wardrobe?
I still have our Swarovski crystal-embellished T-shirts we first made when we launched the brand back in 2008! They were always my favorite to wear under a blazer. Maybe we’ll create a new version of them sometime soon.
Fun fact: they were hand-made in the garment district!
Do you have any sentimental pieces with a special story behind them?
I still have one of the first blazers we ever made from over 12 years ago. It was made in a beautiful gold Italian tweed fabric. Blazers were a new category for us, and we had started working with a fabric showroom in the garment district. The owner of the showroom has become a close friend and mentor to us. It was the start of a wonderful relationship.We also sold that blazer to Intermix, and it sold out fast, giving us the confidence to follow our passion for blazers.
What's your go-to outfit for feeling confident and empowered?
That’s a tough one; I have SO many! I love wearing a bold color suit. Also, I’m really into long maxi dresses with a cropped jacket, which is more for a powerful day look. My newest obsession is our Martine boyfriend blazer that comes with a belt. I love the relaxed, oversized style, and the way it cinches at the waist gives it a flattering, feminine touch.
What's your favorite way to accessorize an outfit?
I love accessories. I usually love a special shoe that ties in well with the look and a statement bag. But most importantly, I love a good pair of sunglasses; they really complete the look for me.
Is there a piece in your closet that always brings you joy when you wear it?
I love wearing my crystal sweatsuits. I have them on rotation, so when I’m not “dressed” up, I’m usually in one of those. I’m super excited to wear the newest colors this season in camel and grey. The crystals add a little bit of bling that I love. I often get stopped when I’m wearing them; it’s usually also a conversation starter.
Do you have any wardrobe essentials that you can’t live without?
Our new Grayson wrap coat. It’s the perfect layering piece, and I have one in each color for every mood!
What’s the most versatile item in your wardrobe?
Our Carolyn crystal denim are the perfect jean. They can be easily worn from day to night and are super comfortable. I love pairing them with a poplin button-down and cute flats or sneakers for a chic daytime look, then switching to heels and a cropped or boyfriend blazer for a stylish evening look.
